The Shadow was right. He recognized the license number when the light car whizzed past. Jing and Sloopy were making up for the time that they had lost by stopping at the lunch wagon. The Shadow had turned on the bright lights of the coupe. He waited until the roadster had swept past a bend; then he clicked his lights to dimmers and jabbed the accelerator. The coupe showed an instant pick-up. Seconds later, The Shadow had attained high speed.

He gained sight of the roadster's tail-light within the next two miles. The crooks, had they looked back, could hardly have connected the car behind them with the coupe that had been loitering along the highway.
